What is essential is the long sought communal discourse – SpectrumEngagement – which is neither symbolic nor by proxy, but a reality.
Difference becomes perceived as fragmentation,
Which becomes seen as polarization,
Which results in the characterization of the divided “sides” and the excluded middle, fwhich leaves us living in a presumed “divided nation.”
The presumption of a “nation divided” and further the presumed “people divided” is a function of a national election process every four years whose infrastructure necessitates that a person selects from one of two “sides.”
This election based selection process dictates an infrastructure with two sides. This is further perpetuated as the elected legislators sit on two sides of an aisle delineated by two parties.
These legislators are elected by the spectrum “of the people” in their district and not those people as divided into two sides – red and blue.
If we desire a nation of “We The People” and not a divided nation of people, would we not benefit from the picture, and the working relationship, depicted by the people assembling in the chambers of the House and Senate (and the state capitals), seated alphabetically, designated by their name – that is, who they are as a person — There, as a representative of the wholeness of the District they represent, not, apparently, the party they represent.
